Past
Devin started life upon a small planet called Euliveos. His people were the shunned ones upon this world. They were regarded within a negative light and generally were not welcomed where they went. Other viewed them as criminals. More than that they were known as plague bringers due to the fact whenever they stayed within a region for an extended period of time those not belonging to his people tended to become extremely ill. Worse, they did not seem to be affected by the diseases that was wreaking havoc upon everyone else. They were affected by these diseases. Just not in the same manner. Not everyone was fearful of Devin's people. Some looked at his people as a source of cure for the many different diseases that plagued their world. If they could figure out how their immune system worked they might be able to come up with a way to apply it to others.
However, Devin's people had no interest in this. They did not wish to help those whom had shown them nothing but cruelty. That was until Devin's mother spoke up. She told them that they were not cruel for cruelty sake, but rather for the sake of fear. If they did not do this then it would just confirm what they believed. They were agents of the destroyer whom wishes to bring their entire world into ruin. More than that she could not stand idly by and watch children suffer. It did not matter if those children were of the people or not. She was going to help them, and would not consider those whom did not do the same as one of her people. These words had a clear affect upon Devin's people because most followed after his mother.
The experiments were far from pleasant, but the scientist whom conducted them did everything within their power to keep them from becoming torturous. It was here that his parent's met. His father was one of the scientists. They were from different worlds, and neither one would really be accepted into the other. Everything pointed to them not being together, but try as they might they couldn't help being drawn to each other. They feel in love, and not long after Devin was born. His parents were overjoyed. Within their eyes, Devin was the most beautiful thing. They loved him more than they had thought was possible. Not everyone shared their joy. Some thought Devin was an abomination. They claimed his birth signaled the end of days. Than there were those whom shared their joy, but for completely different reasons.

Within their eyes, Devin was the most beautiful thing. They loved him more than they had thought was possible. Not everyone shared their joy. Some thought Devin was an abomination. They claimed his birth signaled the end of days. Than there were those whom shared their joy, but for completely different reasons.
He was the first known child to be born from the union of his mother's people and his father's people, and they were curious to know how that would affect his genetics. His parents refused to allow Devin to be experimented upon. They said that when he got old enough to make his own decision and he agreed to the experiments they would support him wholeheartedly, but they would not force their child to endure those experiments. The scientists that worked with them understood this, but words of the experiments had spread across the world. There were those whom thought that those whom made for good candidates for the experiments should be forced into them, and anyone with the wandering people were considered good candidates.
They proposed they should be just locked around inside cages, and only released when they were being used for experiments. They weren't like those conducting the experiments. They weren't their equals, and didn't deserve the same treatment. They even voted for more invasive experiments. They said it did not matter how uncomfortable they were. In fact, a number of them believed it was what they deserved. They had been responsible for endless suffering of their better for countless centuries. It was only fitting that they paid for it. Those whom supported these idea eventually won out, and the people whom had wandered were gathered up to be forced into camps. However, they were not the type to be caged. They fought, but since they had fewer numbers it was a fight in vain, at least it might have been if they didn't have allies.
Those whom didn't support the plan of locking them inside cages as test subjects begun to look for ways to get them out of the reaches of those whom wished for them to be lab rats. It worked, but these plans from time to time were discovered and put down in a bloody manner. It was the discovery of one of these plans that Devin's father found death. He gave his life so his wife and son could escape. Devin's mother was overwhelmed with grief, and might have allowed herself to succumb to death or be taken for the experiments if it wasn't for one of her people dragging her back to reality. He told her that she still had a son to consider, and he would need her help getting the people to the promised land.
Their people have been looking for the promised land for eons. It was the reason for their wandering. They could not make a home in lands that were not their. He claimed that he knew where this land was, but he knew he would not be able to find it without her--no, more specifically he knew he would need her to get the people to follow him. The people listen to her because they believed she spoke with the voice of the heavens, and he believed that if she stood beside him that they would believe he was the chosen one whom would lead them to the promised land. She agreed. Not because she had any care about prophecies, but because she saw his plan as the best way of ending their people suffering.
Just as her savior had predicted with her support almost the entirety of their people joined them, and more would as they traveled across the land. Years passed, and Devin's mother and her savior had become lovers. Some say that he only pushed for their relationship to take this level because he was losing the support of the people, and he thought it was a good way of getting it back. It was being said that he was not the chosen one, and some were looking towards Devin as the chosen one. The more time passed the more people believed that Devin would be the one whom lead them to the promised land. This did not pleased the man whom many regarded as Devin's stepfather. So, when they came a huge building that many might mistake as a green house he saw an opportunity to be rid of Devin.
He knew what was happening across the land. The dead was rising from the grave and wandering across the land to devour any whom they stumbled upon. The government were truing to contain them within these buildings. They had no idea if it was the experiments that caused the dead to rise like this or if it was something else entirely, but they did believe that the strain could be passed from person to person. If they could isolate those whom had been affected they could keep it from spreading. It was why these greenhouse looking building were build to put those whom had been affected inside. Devin's step father believed if he sent Devin into the building that he would be killed, but of course he did not tell Devin this when he asked him to go inside.
He told Devin that there was something about the building that made him uneasy, but he believed there might be something within that might be useful to the group. He didn't want to risk the entire group to have get whatever might be inside and thought that a small group should go inside. This group can make their way through the building, collecting whatever treasures that might be inside while the other group make their way around the building and the two can meet on the other side. Devin agreed and went into the building with the group that his step father had handed picked. It mostly consisted of those whom had been the most vocal against him as well as a few of his most avid supports to keep people from being suspicious.
The building was much bigger on the inside, and it did not take them long to discover that it was filled with the walking dead. Some thought they should turn back. They believed that they would die if they continued into the building. Surely the hordes of the walking dead would get thicker the deeper they go into the building and the treasures that might be hidden inside was not worth their lives, and even if they did find these treasures they would not be useful if they couldn't bring them to the rest of the group. Devin silenced this idea. He told them that he was not going to let a few walking dead scare him. Some thought this was the bravado of youth, but he was the one whom had been put in charge of the group. They would follow him.
They moved through the greenhouse, and Devin proved himself to be quite talented in the art of strategies. He managed to put quite a hole within the horde of the walking dead. It didn't take them long to realize not all the walking dead were mindless beast. There were a few that seemed intelligent, and some even saw the benefit of aligning themselves with Devin's group. Devin agreed to these alliances, got what he wanted then killed the walking dead he had been working with. He did this several times before the the walking dead seemed to have caught on. The last undead he betrayed within this manner told him that he made a mistake. No more of her people would join him, and there will be a time when he will need their help. He just laughed at her and told her that he would cross that bridge when he came to it.
The others within his group asked why he betrayed the walking dead, and he told them that it was because you can't trust those whom see you as lunch. They eventually made it to the other side where they met up with the rest of the group. Devin's stepfather asked what had happened. He was disappointed that Devin had not been killed. In fact, the small group suffered minimal loses. They explained what had happened as well as this was a good place to settle down. They believed this might be their promised land. Devin's stepfather wasn't certain, but he could see why they might think this. Their people had been wandering for so long that even this wasn't the promise land they might want to pretend that it was for a time. It did not hurt to let them have rest for a time. If it was the promised land he could convince them that if it wasn't for him they wouldn't have found it, and if it wasn't he could convince them that he hadn't been the one to falsely lead them to believe it was then convince them to leave to search for the real promised land.
The was just one problem---the undead. He asked if they were all dead, and the small group told him they didn't believe so. They didn't know if it was because of what Devin had done but they were keeping to the more way off areas, but this did not matter they were going to go through every inch of the place and kill every walking dead they stumble upon. This pleased the leader, and he told them to fall back into place. However, they refused. They told him they knew what he had done. He had sent them into that place to die, and a sixteen year old did what he was too much of a coward of doing. They would follow Devin. He was the one that found them the promised land and even if this wasn't the promised land he would eventually lead it to it. They told Devin's step father that he was free to stay, but he could leave if he did not like it. They would not stop him nor would they reveal what he had done to the rest of the group.
He decided to stay. He believed that even if people did follow him they would wonder why the group had been divided, and that thought would dance inside their head until they decided that they had made a mistake in following him and maybe they would figure out that he had sent Devin's group into that building to die. Once they decided this they would remove him from the position of leadership and they might kill him or banish him to do so. He figured if he stayed they might come to believe that he had intended for this place to be their home either for a time or forever. If he waited long enough he might find a way to return to the position he once held.
Time marched on, and Devin's stepfather looked to be no where closer to returning to his old position. In fact, with each passing day he looked to be further and further from it. Everything Devin did confirmed within their eyes that he was destined to be their leader, and Devin's step father begun to look for ways to rid himself of Devin until one day he found his solution. He found some jail cells within the out of the way area, and he decided to lock Devin within one of the cells. Getting Devin to come with him to that area was not hard. Devin might be clever, but when it came to his stepfather he was blind. He hadn't been with those whom had told his stepfather that they knew he had sent them into that building to die nor did he believe his stepfather played any role in the other attempts upon his life since coming to the greenhouse.
He locked Devin inside one of the cells, and left him there to die. He figured he could come up with some story to explain what happened to Devin, and convince them to leave the greenhouse that way they won't accidentally stumble upon Devin. He even injured himself to make his story more believable, and his deception worked. Most of the people agreed to leave with him. However, Devin's mother was not among them. She said she could not leave her son her. It did not matter if he was dead or not. She had to find his body and give him a proper burial. Devin's stepfather tried to convince her to come with him, but it was too no avail. She was going to stay, and some of those whom had said they were going to come with him decided they were going to stay with her instead. This was not what he wanted, but he knew if he kept pushing it that people would begun to wonder if he played a more major role in what happened to Devin.
He wished those whom decided to stay behind luck and told them when they found Devin's body and gave him a proper burial to come looking for them. They were always welcomed into the fold. He hoped they didn't discover Devin's body. He knew if they did and found their way back to his group that it would spell the end for him, and given the size of the place there was a good chance that they wouldn't. They might not check areas that had not been explored, and place he had locked Devin within was marked unexplored. He believed that they would give up before they found Devin, but one should not underestimate the determination of a mother's love. She would not stop looking for her son until she found him, and she did locked up within that cage. Right away, she knew what had happened. She didn't need for anyone to tell her the man whom had shared her bed had tried to kill her son, but his plan failed. Devin was still alive. She could see that.
She rushed to unlock his cage, but one of those whom had remained behind stopped her. He told her that was not her son. Devin had died, and the thing that she saw moving about was only wearing his skin. This amused Devin, and said if only it was that simple. Devin's mother refused to accept that he wasn't his son, but they managed to get her to agree to keep him locked within his cage for observations. With each passing day, it become more clear that he had been changed. His mother believed it was because he had been imprisoned for so long. She argued that someone whom had been locked away like he had been was bound to have issues, but others believed he was one of the undead. Those whom had been with the small group that had came with Devin claimed he had all the characteristics of the the other intelligent walking dead they had come upon. They should kill him. Devin would want that. He would not want to continue on as one of those things.
However, before they could go through with killing him those whom had build the greenhouse returned. These greenhouses had not stopped people from turning into the walking dead, and they figured if they could explore these buildings they might find the answer to a cure. They saw Devin as that answer when they came upon him, but like those whom voted to kill him they saw the danger of letting him out of his cage. Luckily, they did not need to release him from his cage to conduct their experiments. It did not take them long to figure out just how dangerous his blood once. It took only one single drop, and someone was affected. Did every walking dead blood have this same affect? Or was it just certain ones? Was this way some were intelligent while other were reduce to a more primal state? They figured there was only one way to figure this out and that was to get some of the mindless zombies.
However, Devin's people had been so good at clearly that greenhouse of the walking dead they could not find one within the place and transporting one from another greenhouse was deemed too dangerous. There was only one answer and that was too make one. They decided to put those whom had been affected by his blood into cages to die. It did not matter if they died now or later their blood was tainted, and if they died now they might figure out a way to save others from the same fate. However, this did not get them any closer to the answer they sought. Many claimed that this was the end of the world. Others would not accept this. Some believed that a cure could be found. Others whom refused to accept their world was coming to an end believed the world could be saved by killing every zombie and those whom had been affected.
The government eventually sided with those whom saying all the undead should be killed. The went to every place that were said to have the walking dead and begun to put them down. News of what was happening reached Devin's mother whom still did not accept that the being within the cage was not her son, and she moved to release him from his cage. However, she was too slow. Those whom supported the government decision even if they didn't necessarily agree with them stumbled upon her during her attempt to release Devin. A fight broke out--one that Devin's mother lost with the cost of her life. Those whom had emerged victorious turned their attention towards Devin. They had been going around putting down the walking dead they had kept inside cages, and they moved to do the same to him.
He smiled at them before asking if they really thought it would be that easy. They were confused before they noticed Devin's mother moving towards them. They were confused. They hadn't thought she had been infected, but than they remembered what had just happened. She might have been infected during her attempt to free Devin from his cage and the fight that followed. However, they didn't have time to consider this because more of the undead was coming--more than they thought had been within the building. Had the undead really been that good at hiding? Or were they coming in from somewhere else. They didn't have time to consider the possibilities. They had to get out, but the undead was moving in, and each option of getting out was vanishing with every step the walking dead took towards them.
Hope rose up inside them upon hearing Devin's voice. He told them that he would help them if they released him, and upon hearing those words they forgot what he was. Perhaps, it wasn't that they had forgotten but thought because he had maintained his intelligence that made him different from those that was moving towards him. However, they quickly learned they had erred upon letting him out of his cage. He immediately grabbed one of the men and told him 'you shouldn't trust those whom see you as lunch' before biting and tearing his neck out. The others within the group followed soon after. They didn't have time to registered had just happened to their companion before the horde of the undead was upon them and tearing them apart.
The same thing was happening all over the world. The undead which had until now kept to certain areas of Euliveos was now sweeping across the land, killing and devouring any living creature they could get their hands upon. There was nothing the living could do about it. They were fighting a losing battle and soon they all perished--either they were devoured or they were changed. Devin mostly wanted it all. Sometimes he fed, but mostly he wanted. He had been just as baffled by his change as the scientist had been, and thought if he watched the horde of undead spread across the land that he might find the answer to how this all started, and how he came to be. He had the same questions that the scientist whom had conducted the experiments upon him and the other undead had. Yet, he knew the answers he sought would not be found on this planet. He found a ship and took to the stars to see if the answers were out there.

Present
Countless years have passed since Devin had left Euliveos and he is no where closer to answering his questions, but he is directly and indirectly responsible for the destruction of many worlds. A fact that gathered the concern of the galactic empire. They decided he needed to be put down before he destroyed the entire galaxy. They moved to do just that, but Devin managed to stay one step ahead of them and he eventually found a way out of the galaxy leaving a trail of ruins within his wake. Whether or not he had managed to destroy the entire galaxy is another story. He moved to other galaxies--other worlds and did the same thing on them.
It didn't take long for him to catch the interest of the intergalactic government. Of course, one might argue destroying or almost destroying an entire galaxy was a good way to gain someone's attention, and it might have if his galaxy had been a member of the intergalactic government, but as it were his home galaxy had just figured out intergalactic space travel and had not yet met anyone from outside their galaxy. He quickly became a wanted man. Some might argue the most wanted man all over the universe. Agents from various government agency move to bring him to justice. They aren't the only one. Freelancers hoping for a big pay check move to bring him in. Not everyone wants him dead. Criminals of various organizations believe having him within their pocket would be a very good thing.
However, Devin has no interest in being anyone's lap dog. He deals with them just as he deals with those whom wish to put him down. In fact, anyone whom comes after Devin has a habit of ending up dead. Well, everyone expect for a woman named Brie Monroe. He had destroyed her world, and she decided that she needs to stop him. She follows him across the universe to do just this. She isn't the first person from the worlds he had destroyed coming after him fro the sake of vengeance, but she is the first one he has not killed. He doesn't know why he haven't killed her. He just know that he doesn't like the idea of her dying. In fact, he finds the idea of her dying so distasteful that he will go out of his way to protect her and will harm those whom had hurt her in ways that's considered cruel compared to his normal methods.
